Based on Alain Gandy’s book Les Chiens Jaunes, the story takes us back to March 1945. The Japanese army launch a sudden, brutally violent assault on the French garrisons in the Far East. Thousands of civilians and soldiers are killed. Stalked by the Japanese enemy, a column of legionnaires who are already weakened by alcohol and disease decide to traverse the jungle in an attempt to reach China and allied bases.

In a sleepy coastal village a curse lies waiting. Legend has it one night centuries ago when a smuggler was delivering his illicit wares, the excise men pounced. One of the villagers had betrayed him. The smuggler was caught and quickly hanged as an example but, his widow was more than she seemed, the practitioner of an ancient religion of magic and sorcery. The villagers formed a mob to hunt her down as a witch, they brutalised her, tarred and feathered her, but before they could kill her she put one last curse upon the land; that nothing should flourish, no life or love, before taking her own life and spilling her blood upon the land.

Beautiful and raw combination of lyricism and realism in debut drama about a woman with cancer running to her gorgeous, polluted home island to face herself. When Noelia finds out that her cancer has spread, she sets aside the search for new procedures and abruptly goes from San Juan back to Vieques, the island where she grew up in southwest Puerto Rico. At home with her mother, in this place with which she is intimately tied (where the beaches are as marvelous as the sea is polluted, in the traces of US colonialism), she seeks her individual strength and takes part in environmental activism one last time. At the same time, a hurricane approaches. Glorimar Marrero Sánchez creates her own visual language in a film that tells us about disfigured bodies and land, and that both enchants and simplifies. A magnificent Isabel Rodriguez in the leading role gives Noelia dignity and an enormous power.
